Wednesday
A slow-moving front brings an unsettled and thundery day for central France, although drier toward the east and across the Low Countries. A few afternoon storms for the Alps and Pyrenees. Showers also for eastern Spain, but much of Iberia stays dry. Cool and breezy in the north & west, 20C on the Biscay coast. Reaching 35C in southern Portugal and south-west Spain.
Germany stays dry and warm, although a risk of thundery rain developing from the south later. A surge of heat pushes back across eastern Europe from the south, 30 to 34C in eastern Poland, and heading back toward 40C in Hungary and the Balkans. Hot again across Italy and Greece. Heavy rain for southern Norway and Sweden most of the day. Drier around the Baltic with high pressure centred over western Russia. A few showers in the far north.


Thursday
Dry weather continues across Iberia - hot in south-west Spain and Portugal. Slack low pressure over western Europe brings cool and unsettled weather - areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms for France, the Low Countries and Germany, although the Riviera and also Brittany may escape dry. Thundery rain too for the Alps, and a few showers possible for northern-central Italy. Hot and dry for southern Italy, Greece and areas near the Black Sea. Scorching temperatures for the Balkan states, Hungary and Slovakia, also south-eastern Poland, topping 40C. A risk of severe thunderstorms developing and spreading from Austria to the Czech Republic and also across southern Poland. Areas of thundery rain for the Baltic states and Finland, whilst southern Scandinavia should stay dry.
