Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

North/south divide - cold and settled to the north while milder and wet in the south

Monday
Bands of locally heavy rain spread from west to east over Portugal and Spain. These later reach the Balearic Islands, Corsica and Sardinia. Rather cloudy for mainland Italy with scattered showers here. These locally heavy to the east. Heavy showers also spread east across Greece and into western Turkey. Brighter conditions follow for Greece while much of Turkey remains cloudy.
Southern France is cloudy with outbreaks of rain. Brighter to the north with scattered wintry showers. Scattered snow showers too for the Low Countries and across northern Germany where they may merge to give longer periods of snowfall. Dry with isolated spells of sun for southern Germany and Switzerland. Rain, sleet and snow clears from Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia through the day while Poland sees more prolonged, widespread snowfall. Staying dry to the far north.
Staying largely dry and fine for Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Baltic States with scattered wintry showers a continued risk for coastal areas. Cloudier and breezier for Denmark but staying dry here.

Tuesday
More rain, heavy and persistent in places, pushes from west to east across Spain and Portugal with winds strengthening too. A dry day for the Balearics but cloud will thicken here and rain is expected by evening. A wet and cloudy day for Italy with blustery showers across Corsica and Sardinia. Rain across Greece, turning heavy by the afternoon. Some patchy rain affecting western Turkey while eastern areas will be mainly dry.
A dry morning across much of France but the afternoon will see a mix of rain, sleet and snow affect western areas, reaching central regions by evening. Expect improving conditions across west Germany and the Low Countries but snow showers will continue in the north and east. Snow affecting Switzerland and Austria through the day with rain, sleet and snow also across Hungary and Croatia. Poland will see some snow to the north and mainly dry conditions further south before snow pushes into southern areas by evening.
With high pressure over much of Scandinavia there will be mainly dry conditions although do expect some snow showers across central and northern areas of Norway and parts of central Sweden. Possible snow flurries through Denmark but mainly dry here. Some snow showers for the Baltic States but with plenty of dry periods.
